Life in Aldershot Was Not So Bad

An interesting postcard from John to Miss Marg Thorn of Sydenham, Newmains, Lanarkshire.

Dated 6th November [sic??] 1914, John writes:

Dear Marg

It is a long time since I last wrote you, but time seems to pass so quickly here.

We all dreaded leaving Inverness for Aldershot, but now we are delighted with the change.

Our quarters here are splendid, also the food so that we are very happy.

Next Saturday, Sergeants McLeod, Corcoran and I intend going to London and will return on Sunday evening. Trust you are doing well. With best love, John.

I have to wonder whether life in Aldershot in 1914 was quite the rosy picture that John has painted.

This postcard (No 1183) showing the Cambridge Military Hospital, Aldershot, can be seen here.
