The Forgetful One

In this postcard to Miss Ada Paltenden of Prospect Cottage, Henfield, Sussex, a forgetful “J” writes:

Just a line to say I arrived safely 5.30 very good journey no stop between Willesden and Rugby found some snow and we’ve had a lot in the night – very cold.  Am so sorry but forgot hand case will you please send it also booklet of Violet nurseries.  Much love to all.

This postcard, published by “F J C and Co, D” is postmarked Birmingham on 30 December 1913.  The postcard bears a picture by Rotary Photo, London of New Street, Birmingham, which may be seen here.

It never ceases to amaze me how early twentieth century postcard authors were so economical with punctuation.  It’s almost as if they were gabbling the message.
